It appears word has got around that I have some experience working on the Sizaire Frères 4RI, today this rather delightful Vanvooren bodied example was dropped off. It's come from Germany, the owner would like me to go over the entire car to make sure it is 100% and ready for the next 100 years. I might already have mentioned the specification but it's worth going over again as it is so technically advanced for its time: 2 litre, 4 cylinder, single overhead cam engine giving 50hp; all round independent suspension; 4 wheel brakes; steering rack. One of the big issues is that it needs new tyres but the size currently fitted is no longer available, re-rimming the wheels is going to be tricky as, whilst they are spoked, the spokes are really short. I'll be sending one away to Nick Mouat to have a look at the options. I also know it will need re-wiring and the engine hasn't had any serious work all its life so that will come out and be stripped down. Fortunately I've been supplied with a workshop manual, to a degree, and some factory drawings of the major components, that should all come in handy. I've been wondering when was the last time 2 of these cars have been in one workshop, I feel quite privileged.
