This VW Type 2 that I first got to know at the end of last year came back in a couple of weeks ago for a check up and to see if I could find the source of the lack of power - it was due to go on a long journey. I found that the main reason was the throttles not opening fully, in fact barely half, and that made a bit of a difference, just not as much as expected. It's always good to go back to basics and ignition timing is as good a place to start as anywhere, unfortunately the engine was missing any indication of a timing mark. I set it in about the best spot I could find and the van made it to Dorset and back, now there are a couple of weeks when it isn't needed and I've bought a timing indicator already, I'm hoping to see some improvements next week.
