Porsche 928S2, it lives

Another 2 months have passed since the last post about my 928S2, finally an update worth shouting about. It's not been straightforward, of course. First thing to deal with was a leaking radiator, that came straight after filling it with coolant. I didn't mind so much, after all that's gone on with the engine it made sense to have the radiator re-cored. MRS in Preston did the deed, and quite beautiful it turned out, I was even able to source the original warning and information stickers for the top. The air valve showed up and was fitted as well as the new fuel pipe, effectivley finishing off under the hood. With the battery charged up I tried firing it up, it turned over (a relief in itself) but there was nothing from the fuel pump, which I found was seized. I drained what smelled like stale fuel out of the tank, put in fresh and fitted a new pump but it still wouldn't start, no power to the fuel pump and no spark either. This led me to supect the crank sensor, source, through the ECU, of both drive to the fuel pump and the ignition. The replacement came this morning and was an easy fit as I already had the old one out. I found a resistance test to help confirm the fault, the one I removed failed, the new one, before fitting, passed. The only thing left to do was turn the key, I heard trace of the fuel pump and then the engine fired up. It's been 6 years since it last ran, 5 since it came back to me from the guy who took the heads off and uncovered the issue. There's been a huge amount to think about and get right on this engine so I can't say how pleased I am that it runs, with good oil pressure too. It's passed into Historic tax status in the interim so I'll get it MoT tested, have the status changed on the V5, insure it, and then I can experience driving it again.
