I've made some more progress on the Toyota Celica the last couple of weeks and today I've been able to put it back on the ground. Finishing off the engine bay went well enough but there have been some issues with the fuel tank. When the tank was removed the filler neck was found to be rusted through in several places and, as it was not available to buy, it meant some careful repair work by my friendly fabricator. Removing it, the fuel pump, the fuel sender and the breather from the tank was problematic, all screws had to be ground off and then extracted. The fuel pump was beyond repair but the bracket and fittings could be cleaned and a new pump was fitted. The sender was buried in various furry oxides but this also was cleaned and now works. That just left the tank itself, I was a bit stuck on how to best clean it out until it was suggested (by MRS Radiators in Preston) to fill it with traffic film remover (TFR), if left for a week or so the lightly caustic properties would eat away at the rust. I set this up last week, put in 25 litres, repositioned the tank every couple of days and then pumped it dry. I could then wash it out with a hose and once dry it looked like brand new. It was reassembled last week and today I've finished installing it in the car. Nothing for it now but to put some fuel in and see if it fires up.
