VW Beetle 1500 in the workshop

After the last few months infestation of MGBs it's interesting that, following on from the Beetle 1303 coming in last week, a 1966 1500 has turned up today in need of a little work. Whoever worked on it last seems to have struggled with his electrical knowledge as the horn & reversing lights don't work and the brake lights were on all the time. It's also got split and leaking drive shaft boots. I've been under the front end and found out what's up with the horn - the negative wire that's supposed to go up the column to the horn push had been wired directly to ground and the wire in the column likewise (its a good job the spade connectors were rubbish as the horn would have been on constantly). The brake light fault is down to a faulty switch, easy fix but the brakes will need bleeding out as it's screwed into the master cylinder. Tomorrow I'll poke around at the rear, it's been lowered a bit too much to get both ends jacked up at the same time.
