Rover P4 in the workshop

This Rover 100 was dragged in last week, it would fire but wouldn't run. It had to be fuel starvation as I found the float chamber empty and when I sloshed some fuel in to get it in the workshop it fired right up. These cars have a fuel reserve switch on the instrument panel that operates a solenoid valve mounted on the fuel tank which selects from either of 2 sources, one deeper than the other. Having checked the fuel pump and cleaned out the internal filter it looks like the main issue is the fuel gauge, it shows half full, I put gallon in the tank and switched on the reserve and it was all fine. As it's a recent purchase I was also asked to replace the coil, points, condenser, cap, rotor, oil & filter. For now I'll leave the fuel gauge issue alone, filling the tank and driving it around might help free off the sender.
