Celica GT4 MoT test

mcpheatauto

In the last post about this Celica it was running and improving so thoughts turned to getting it through an MoT. There was a historical fault with the ABS, the warning light was on and this would be a fail so that was the first job. On these it's possible to get a code reading through the warning light by disconnecting a plug near the valve unit and shorting a couple of connectors in the DIAG plug. 2 codes came through, both indicating a failed sensor at the front right corner. As the original part is not available something similar was sourced and then modified to fit. A snag then cropped up, the aftermarket ignition/fuel pump isolator failed, that meant tracking down the controller and wiring, removing it, and correcting the wiring loom. And lastly the washer pump, other than it being tucked up inside the wheel arch that was the easy job, a pattern part was sourced and installed. On Friday I took it for its test, the drive down there was surpsingly good considering it's been over 15 years since it was last driven on the road. Even better was the pass with no advisories. Now it's just a case of pouring as much petrol through the engine as possible, it's such fun to drive I can't see that being a problem.
