Austin Healey 3000 in the workshop

mcpheatauto

This rather nice MkIII Healey 3000 was dropped off today for a bit of a look over. The owner has gone to the trouble of having it restored before bringing it in, which is nice, I don't have to get dirty. It's not running well when cold, ok on the motorway and not bad when warm. I tweaked the SU carburettors a bit as the front one was idling on the fast idle screw, set the mixture enough to make it run and then found the timing to be around 18º retarded. With this corrected it would at least idle fast enough to correctly set the mixture, idle bypass and balance, a run up the road seemed to show it was ok, a cold start test tomorrow will make sure.
