​I bought this 2008 Microcar MC2 knowing that it would need some work, now that this is complete I am offering it for sale. The MC2 is the long wheelbase version of the MC1, with longer doors and seating for 4. Weighing in at 350kg they fall into the Quadricycle tax class, £20 per year and if you passed your bike license before 2001 you can drive one without a car license. They tended to be sold by agents who used to deal with Reliant and sold to the same kind of people, bikers looking for a roof and a heater for the winter. There is an aluminium box frame creating the shell with front and rear steel subframes and all plastic panels, total weight being 350kg. In Europe they were limited to 28mph, here they were fitted with a 5hp 505cc water cooled Lombardini inline 2 cylinder OHC petrol engine and fuel injection, raising the top speed to 72mph yet still returning around 70mpg.

This actual car, showing 17400 on the odometer, is in really excellent order with the body panels almost unmarked. The interior is in similar order with just some slight wear showing on the driver's seat base. The 5-spoke alloy wheels are shod with good rubber with plenty of tread to hold it to the road. The bigger jobs involved fitting new rear brake calipers (they were missing), a new exhaust system (also missing when bought), and a new brake master cylinder (leaked once I'd carried out the other work). I also replaced a speaker as it was missing a grille, fitted an antenna whip and installed Bluetooth radio head unit. The engine fires up easily and idles smoothly, there are no leaks. The belt drive gearbox is as easy as any, select D to go forward, R to go back, N to start to the car.
