1970 Jaguar E-type Series 2 FHC
This Series 2 Jaguar E-type FHC was imported from the US in 1989 and has been in the same family ownership since 1994. It's a great example of a driver's car, it's not pristine - so you don't have to be precious about it - but it does present really well. I really like it.
The original colour was "sable", a very 70s hue, I think the black suits it much better and it isn't a colour you see often on one of these. As you can see in the photos the paint still has a lot of depth and shine. The condition of the panels is also good, there are some blemishes but they certainly do not detract from the overall look of the car.
The Heritage Certificate lists the interior colour as "cinnamon" and, similarly to the exterior, whilst not in concours condition the cabin is still a very nice place to be. The seats are comfortable, leather isn't cracked, stained or split, carpets are good, centre console excellent and the dash and steering wheel are just as you'd like to find them. The load deck in the back has a couple of splits in the vinyl on the forward panel, the current owners have had a Mexican style blanket covering the whole lot as they have often taken their dogs out in the car.
Under the bonnet the engine is running really well, good oil pressure & coolant temperature, lots of power and very smooth. It is now supplied with fuel by triple Weber carburettors instead of the original twin Strombergs and the exhaust gasses exit through a set of stainless steel headers. A new aluminium radiator has been recently installed along with modern electric fans. The clutch is light, gearshift is easy, there's a slight noise from the throw-out bearing at idle. When it was in my workshop recently for a check over I fitted new lower ball joints and replaced the rubber gaiters on the upper ball joints and track rod ends. An inspection of the front brakes and rear suspension subframe at the same time showed them to be in good usable condition with no immediate needs.
